Rebecca Vixler stood among the stones, with her hair blowing in that way that hair only does in the carefully selected wind of movies and B-rated TV, and gazed solemnly up towards the remains of Legend Fire academy. All the people she’d known, the halls she’d walked, tables she’d sat at, all gone; buried, under memory and stone. The only thing untouched now was the graveyard.
They certainly wouldn’t be getting their security deposit back after this.
Mounted to great marble pillars astride the cemetery gate was an equally impressive slab of black marble, with a list of names carved down its center. A memorial, to those particular victims sent packing by the multitude of maniacs that had plagued the academy.
Theirs were not the only remains buried here; no, the cemetery played host as well to the countless others who had been shoved out of upper-floor windows by distressed critique'ees, or clobbered to death by disgusted critique'ers. A wobbly pillar of concrete had been erected in the center of the yard; their names had been crudely hacked into its sides with a spork, and were hence unrecognizable for a multitude of reasons.
Several of the names on the lack marble, however, she did recognize. Some of the first, Carter had told her about, before he went off to blow up some hill, and stuck her with the slightly less interesting task of investigating homicidal ink-sorcerers. Still, it had been fun, and for the sake of her newfound friends, she had hoped that her last investigation would be the last.
She turned to leave and planted her boot into something that crunched. Lecherously leering up-skirt at her - impressive, considering she was wearing jeans - was a thoroughly de-fleshed skeleton.
She screamed, the skeleton - somehow - muttered something off-color and vaguely Gaelic, and was thereupon drug for some thirty-odd yards of a generally panicked gait, until its scapula caught upon the wrought iron, and the remains of bluewpc exploded in as many pieces as directions.
Rebecca muttered something about the wizards' distasteful choice of memorial font, and headed back to the car.
The letter still sat on the passenger seat, invitation beside it.
Dearest Detective Vixler,
You have been invited to Chateau DuQuesne to assist us with a personal matter. Our beloved grandmother, the Duchess Elizabeth Montgomery Victoria Villanueva "Geebaw" DuQuesne sr. III, esquire, was found dead in the basement this past Monday. After several attempts at resuscitation, including a rather jaunty bout involving tap shoes and a bellows, we regretfully conceded her death, and were forced to inform the authorities.
They were less than helpful, ruling her death as natural causes, and even going so far as to label our efforts contributory! However, we suspect that something else is at hand here. Therefore, we are seeking alternative agencies who might better assist us. We have heard of your assistance with the Legendfire murders, and would ask that you grant us your expertise in this matter.
We hope you will not be offended to learn that we have sent out six invitations, to some of your former colleagues, and to other promising detectives. We do not doubt your skill; rather, we value it enough to ask that you lead the investigation. We have sent you all the pertinent information, as collected by those buffoons in blue, so that you might better organize the manhunt once the others arrive.
We will be out of town for several weeks, vacationing in Italy to help overcome our immense grief at the loss of our beloved grandmother. We have left instructions with the staff that you, and the detectives, are to have full access to the manor, and all the facilities therein. Please, make yourselves at home.
Eagerly awaiting your results,
Madam DuQuense seemed decidedly decided in the matter already, but she wasn't so sure. After all, this reeked of the old Legendfire murders. She hadn't done one of those in a long time. People tended to die on these cases.
On the other hand, her other case load at the moment was nonexistant.
And the cases here had always been, dare she say, fun? Even with the risk of death. All that magic and creep. It was inspiring. Intoxicating.
That's why she'd come back. Hoping that this place would give her some kind of guidance.
Rebecca folded the letter and tucked it into her jacket.
And perhaps it had.
Cluedo the Ninth
The ninth round of Cluedo is about to begin. The game starts (if there are enough players) Sunday, February 11th (Central Time zone).
The victim: Duchess Elizabeth Montgomery Victoria Villanueva "Geebaw" DuQuesne sr. III, esquire
The place: Chateau DuQuesne
The weapon, exact location, and murderer: For the inspectors to find out!
The Beastmaster with no tongue
The Gardener with leaves in his hair
The Chamberlain with one nostril
The Butler with the severed toe
The Chef with not-even brows
The Maid with dead siblings
A filthy rag
A silver tankard
A pair of garden shears
A butcher knife
A leather whip
A broken quill
- Cherry Scuttlefoot (Raveneye)
- Dr. Ostensible Force (Bird)
- Fluffy von Fluffenstein (Jib)
- Andrew Kechi (doublejay)
The rules are simple:
1) Clues, which list innocent suspects or clean weapons/locations, will be given to each player through PMs.
- There are 21 clues in total, minus the 3 correct clues, which leaves 18 total clues to be handed out to players. Some of you may receive more or fewer clues than others, depending on how many join. This is normal.
2) Each player MUST POST ONCE A DAY! Any who fail to do so (or message me in some reasonable amount of time) will become a secondary victim of the murderer and forfeit the game.
3) Each posting must have either a suggestion or an accusation (Please use the words “suggest” or “accuse” or some variation of, somewhere in your post so that I know what you’re getting at) that includes: a suspect, a weapon, and a location.
4) Once all players have posted, another round of clues will be given out. How this works is:
- If your suggestion is correct, I will PM you that your suggestion is correct, and prompt you to make an accusation with the same details
- I will PM you and prove ONE of your suggested clues as FALSE.
5) If a player makes an accusation that is wrong, the killer will strike them down for giving away the credit for their kill! So make sure you’ve nailed it down as best as you can before accusing anyone.
6) The FIRST correct accusation wins the game. If all players are killed off, the murderer gets away.
7) After making their post for the day, players are free to RP with each other in the game thread; however, only one (1) suggestion or accusation may be given each day.
Once your required post for the day has been made, you may interact with the world, the house, the players, the NPCs, even the suspects, as much as you want until the next round of clues has been given. (You may NOT murder another Player, kill a Suspect, destroy a Clue, or set fire to a Location.) Your characters may be at odds with each other - if you wish to have it out and throw a punch or a few slaps, or have a classy (or underhanded) race to the finish between two characters, please discuss it with each other through this thread or PMs and then by all means, feel free. This is an RP, after all.
Any other questions, let me know!
So, sign up here to join in the fun with Cluedo the Ninth! We will be accepting up to five players for this round. If you would like to play, please respond with a post containing the following:
Investigator name, and any other extra information you would like to provide about your investigator (backstory, habits, quirks, etc).
That's all we need. Good luck, and have fun!
During the last round, there were bonus points for solving what I loosely called a riddle (all the suspect names were plays off of Nightwish song titles). But we don’t have honor points here! So if you can find the hidden message, you'll get a... massive sense of accomplishment from pushing your brain to discover the hidden secret somewhere in this post. If you think you've got it, answers may be submitted at the end of the game, once the killer has been caught!
