Pros/Cons
Here is a simple, quick (though not complete) list of both some stated pros and cons:
Pros:
Idea feedback is near immediate.
There are two or more eyes to watch for typos and inconsistencies.
Encouragement to continue past writers' block and plot stalls.
Current technology makes face-to-face collaboration unnecessary.
Multiple authors=multiple styles, keeping writing fresh and interesting.
The writers have a chance to learn from each other, developing their styles more.
Character development and interaction are more realistic.
No one author has complete control over the work.
Cons:
Multiple authors can lead to personality conflicts.
No one author has complete control over the work. (yes, this is a pro AND a con)
Legalities are more complex and less binding.
Failure of one author can mean failure of the project.
The writing process can take longer.
Disagreements are inevitable.
Multiple writers can cause significant inconsistencies.
Would you write collaboratively? Why or why not?
